Take Action

Taking action is how civic education turns into civic life. YCP runs time-boxed civic projects with a clear start and end, such as a rights literacy week, a student handbook workshop, or a registration desk for people who are already eligible to vote where they live.

Education pages stay education pages. YCP does not endorse or oppose candidates or political parties, and our campaigns are educational.

Current campaigns

Campaigns appear below when they are running. Each one explains what it is, how long it runs, and how to take part.

Official

Know-Your-Rights classroom week

An educational campaign that invites clubs and classes to teach one amendment page each day for a week. No candidate names and no party slate. Groups can use the library pages, the Learn modules, and the printable sheets.

Ways to take action anytime

You do not need a campaign to get involved. Here are things you can do on your own, at any age:

  • Teach one page. Walk a friend, class, or club through a library page or Learn module. Log it on the Service page.
  • Learn your local rules. Use the Your State page to find your district's student code and your state's official sites.
  • Go to a public meeting. School boards and city councils hold public meetings, and many have time for public comment. The Train page explains how to prepare.
  • Contact an elected official. Find your U.S. Representative at house.gov, your Senators at senate.gov, and state and local officials at usa.gov/elected-officials.
  • Help with registration. If you are helping people who are already eligible to vote, follow your state's rules. Vote.gov has official information for every state.
  • Propose a project. Have a bigger idea? Submit it on the Projects page for officer review.

Before you act in YCP's name

Read the Advocacy Guidelines before you collect signatures, organize an event, or speak publicly in YCP's name. In short:

  • Get officer approval before using the YCP name on any campaign or event.
  • Keep it nonpartisan. No candidate endorsements or party slates.
  • Follow the safety rules for events, including an adult on site for in-person activities.
  • Do not collect personal information about minors.
  • Be accurate. Cite real sources.

If you are acting on your own, you are speaking for yourself and not for YCP.
