What we do

The Youth Civic Project is a U.S. 501(c)(3). Our mission is civic education for young people across the United States: the rights written in constitutions and statutes, the cases that explain those rights, and the process used in schools, workplaces, courts, and public life. Members may live anywhere. The library is written for a global youth audience. When a page is about United States law, it says so. When a page is about a principle that appears in many systems — speech, fair process, limits on searches, child-labor rules — it says that too, and tells the reader to check the rule where they live.

The project has four public parts. A library of Issues pages. Learn modules and case briefs. A moderated chat that saves messages so a member can return and still see the thread. Service: volunteer hours that can be approved and printed, ambassadors, and chapters with an adult sponsor.

We do not appear in court. We do not sell legal plans. We do not match a student to a private lawyer as a hidden clinic. We do not run a sports league. Officers and chat staff are not the reader’s attorney in any country.

What a normal week looks like: update one explainer. Answer saved chat with a link and the educational line. Approve hour logs that actually happened. Take an ambassador note. That is the charity’s work.

The corporation is a United States public charity. Formation, the IRS file, the bank, and the yearly 990 live in that system. Ambassadors, readers, and chapters may be in any country. A chapter does not become a second charity unless it files in its own country.
