Community

The YCP community is where members share what they are learning, ask questions, post project notes, and read official announcements. Posts stay on this website, so they are easy to find later and are covered by the same conduct rules as the rest of YCP.

Where the community lives

Member posts (this page). The main place for discussion. Members can post, reply, and follow project updates. Official announcements from the YCP Team also appear here.

Saved chat. Moderated chat for members who have signed the agreements. Messages are saved, so a thread is still there next week.

Voice rooms. Drop-in voice rooms that follow the same conduct rules as text. Audio is not recorded.

Discord. The official YCP Discord server is optional. If you use it, connect the same account from your member desk so your New and Member roles match this site. Start at the Discord page for the invite and the connection steps.

What to post

  • Questions about a module, a library page, or a Case of the Day
  • Something you read or learned, with a link to the source
  • Updates on an approved project
  • Ideas for new explainers or lessons
  • Notes from a chapter meeting or event, without other members' personal details

Community rules in short

The full rules are on the Community Rules page. In short:

  • Be respectful. Disagree with ideas, not people. No harassment, slurs, or threats.
  • Stay on topic. Civic education, rights, government, and YCP projects.
  • Cite your source. If you make a claim about a law or case, link to where you read it.
  • Keep it nonpartisan. You can discuss issues. Do not use YCP spaces to campaign for or against candidates or parties.
  • Protect privacy. Do not share your own or anyone else's address, phone number, school, or other personal details.
  • No legal advice. Members and staff can point to general information, but no one here can advise you on your specific case.

Announcements are for officers. Points earned from posts are capped, so posting more does not mean ranking higher. Moderators can hide posts that break the rules. A timeout blocks posting but not reading.

Reporting a problem

If you see a post that breaks the rules or worries you, use the Reporting page. Moderators review reports. If someone may be in danger, contact local emergency services first. In the United States, call 911, or call or text 988 for the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline.
