School discipline
Schools may keep order. Many systems still require notice and a chance to speak before a long exclusion. The amount of process usually grows with the penalty.
United States public-school map: Goss v. Lopez (1975) said a short suspension still needs notice of the charges and, if denied, an explanation and a chance to tell the student’s side. Longer removals and expulsions pick up more state and local procedure. Disability-education statutes add another track. Handbooks should be read as written, then checked against the constitution if the school is public.
Practical list that travels: get the exact rule cited; write times and witnesses the same day; ask whether the meeting is informal or a hearing; bring an adult; do not sign what you do not understand; ask the appeal deadline in writing. YCP will not draft the appeal.
