Module E

Youth court as a separate system

Gault, Winship, and why a court date is not a module.

Most countries run a separate system for accused children. Goals on paper often include rehabilitation. That does not mean there is no procedure.

In re Gault (1967) required notice, counsel, confrontation, and the privilege against self-incrimination when commitment to a state institution is at stake. In re Winship required proof beyond a reasonable doubt in delinquency cases.

If there is a court date, this site is not the lawyer. Do not miss a hearing because a module was interesting.
